Week 3 at Connected Talent

Week 3 at Connected Talent

I’ve just finished week 3 of my career ready placement here at Connected Talent. Each week has been better than the last. I can feel myself becoming more and more comfortable in the office environment that had seemed very daunting before this experience.

Before starting this internship, I pictured myself sitting behind a desk for 8 hours every day doing the same task in a slightly different context but that has not been the case at all. Each week, I have been doing something completely different and have been out of the office the same amount of time that I’ve been in it.

This week, I was delegated the task of updating and editing the Connected Talent website. At the beginning of the week, my web development skills were very limited and I had only used one piece of web software (Dreamweaver). So, I had a lot to learn. Connected Talent’s site was built using WordPress, a software that I had no previous experience using. To make up for my skills gap, I used online help guides and watched detailed YouTube tutorials so I could carry out the task to a good standard and in a reasonable time. It was a slight relief to work on some IT as it’s what I enjoy doing. I truly enjoyed working on the website and using my initiative to receive a positive outcome in something I was struggling with. It also gave me a good insight into what a future in IT with Business might be.

At the end of the week, I got the chance to sit in on some interviews where I was tasked to take notes. It was a great opportunity as I got the experience of an interview without the nerves and pressure. I could really take in the environment of the situation and, in the future, use the experience in my own interviews. I feel far more confident about interviews and feel more prepared for them.

Sadly, I only have one week left at Connected Talent, but I know I can still get a lot more out of it.
