My first week in Connected Talent

My first week in Connected Talent

My name is Ethan Roddy, I have just turned 18 and I am currently studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology at the North West Regional College. I hope to go on and study Business and IT at Ulster University and as a result, get a job in the IT sector. I understand that I have the same plan as a lot of people and the job market is becoming more and more competitive that’s why it is important for me to get a competitive edge that’s why I joined career ready.

I started a one-month internship at Connected Talent just over a week ago now. I am here as part of the Career Ready Programme, a UK charity setup to help young people gain skills and experience in the workplace. I have learnt so much in my short time here and have been kept very busy assisting with the ongoing project of relocating offices. Before this week, I had very little understanding of proper workplace etiquette or how to appropriately write an email. Each day, I am practicing both proper office etiquette and sending emails that have been correctly laid out, using appropriate language. Connected Talent is really helping me improve my skill set and has helped me grow my confidence significantly. Before starting my internship, I was nervous because of how professional the company is. As soon as I started, everyone immediately made me feel so welcome and comfortable which has greatly improved my confidence.

Connected Talent is such a great company that are very professional and kind when dealing with their clients. Everybody works very hard to get their job done. I am so fortunate to get experience in a professional environment at such a young age and even more fortunate that that environment is Connected Talent. Looking back at how much I have learnt in the space of a week, I really look forward to the coming weeks and all the skills and knowledge that I will gain.
